Sura Fatiha Virtues

Surah Al-Fatiha serves as a powerful reminder of the central role of prayer in the life of a Muslim. The act of reciting this chapter during each prayer serves as a means of bringing the believer closer to Allah and strengthening their faith. It should be noted that while the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha is a fundamental aspect of the prayer, it is not obligatory for the followers to recite it out loud when praying behind an imam, as the imam's recitation suffices for the congregation.

In Surah Al-Hijr (15:87), Allah says,

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ

"And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an."

This is between Allah and His servant

It is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Allah has said, 'I have divided the prayer between myself and my servant into two halves, and my servant shall have what he has asked for.' When the servant says, 'All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds,' Allah says, 'My servant has praised me.' When he says, 'The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy,' Allah says, 'My servant has extolled me.' When he says, 'Master of the Day of Judgment,' Allah says, 'My servant has glorified me.' When he says, 'You alone we worship, and you alone we ask for help,' Allah says, 'This is between me and my servant, and my servant shall have what he has asked for.' When he says, 'Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your anger, nor of those who go astray,' Allah says, 'This is for my servant, and my servant shall have what he has asked for'.

Surah Al-Fatiha is unique in its ability to encapsulate the essential teachings of the Quran in a concise and powerful form.

Tawhid

Tawhid, or the belief in the oneness of Allah, is one of the central themes of Surah Al-Fatiha. Here are some examples of how tawhid is emphasized in this chapter of the Quran: The statement "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help" expresses the core principle of tawhid, which is to worship and seek help only from Allah, and to recognize that He is the only source of true guidance and support.

Risalat

Risalat, or the belief in the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), is not explicitly mentioned in Surah Al-Fatiha. However, the importance of following the guidance of the prophets and messengers is implied in several verses of this chapter. For example: "Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom You have favored" suggests that one of the key ways to attain guidance and righteousness is to follow in the footsteps of the righteous people who have come before us, including the prophets and messengers.

A reminder of the Day of Judgment

The verse "Master of the Day of Judgment" (3rd verse) as a reminder of the Day of Judgment, where each individual will be held accountable for their deeds and rewarded or punished accordingly in the afterlife.

Ruqyah

Surah Al-Fatiha is a source of healing: Muslims also believe that Surah Al-Fatiha has the power to heal physical and spiritual ailments. It is often recited as part of the practice of Ruqyah, which is the use of Quranic verses and supplications for healing and protection.
