Can we vape while fasting for Ramadan?

Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims, who are required to abstain from food, drink, and other pleasures from dawn to dusk. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is meant to bring the faithful closer to God and more compassionate towards those in need. But what about vaping? Does it break the fast? And is it permissible in Islam?

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling aerosol or vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device. Unlike traditional cigarettes, vaping does not involve burning tobacco or producing smoke. However, vaping still contains nicotine and other chemicals that may have harmful effects on the body and mind.

According to most Islamic scholars, vaping is haram (forbidden) in Islam because it harms the health of the user and others around him or her. The Quran says:

"And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful." (4:29)

And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Moreover, vaping breaks the fast during Ramadan because it involves inhaling particles that reach the stomach. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allah has no need of his giving up his food and drink." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Vaping is considered a form of false speech and ignorance because it deceives the user into thinking that he or she is not smoking, while in reality he or she is consuming harmful substances.

Therefore, Muslims who vape should refrain from doing so during Ramadan and at all times. Vaping does not only invalidate the fast, but also contradicts the spirit of Ramadan, which is to purify oneself from worldly desires and distractions. Vaping also goes against the Islamic principle of moderation and balance, which advises Muslims to avoid excesses and extremes in everything they do.

Ramadan is a great opportunity for Muslims to quit vaping and smoking altogether, and to seek Allah's help and guidance in overcoming their addiction. Allah says:

"And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." (65:2-3)

And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek help from Allah, and do not give up." (Sahih Muslim)

May Allah bless us all with a successful and rewarding Ramadan. Ameen.
