Is guidance a matter of chance or favoritism in islam?

Many people wonder how they can receive guidance from Allah (SWT) in their daily lives. They may feel confused, lost or uncertain about what to do in certain situations. They may also wonder why some people seem to be more guided than others, and what they can do to increase their chances of being among the guided ones.

The answer is simple: guidance is not a matter of chance or favoritism, but a result of sincere and earnest seeking of the truth, in the light of the Quran and the sunnah. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:

وَٱلَّذِینَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِینَا لَنَهۡدِیَنَّهُمۡ سُبُلَنَاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ

And those who strove in Our way – We shall surely show them Our paths; and indeed Allah is with the virtuous.

This verse shows us that guidance is a gift from Allah (SWT) to those who strive for His sake, who exert themselves in learning and applying His commands, who seek His pleasure and avoid His wrath, who follow the example of His Messenger (SAW) and his companions (RA), and who do good deeds with sincerity and excellence.

Guidance is not something that we can achieve by ourselves, without the help of Allah (SWT). He is the One who guides whom He wills, and misguides whom He wills. He is the One who knows what is best for us, and what will lead us to success in this world and the next. He is the One who has revealed the Quran as a clear guidance for mankind, and has sent His Messenger (SAW) as a mercy and a model for us to follow.

Therefore, if we want to receive guidance from Allah (SWT), we need to turn to Him with humility and sincerity, and ask Him to guide us to the straight path. We need to read and understand the Quran, and implement its teachings in our lives. We need to follow the sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), and learn from his wisdom and manners. We need to seek knowledge from authentic sources, and avoid doubtful matters. We need to perform our obligatory duties, and increase in voluntary acts of worship. We need to be honest, kind, generous, patient, grateful, forgiving and humble. We need to avoid sins, repent from our mistakes, and seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and from those whom we have wronged.

These are some of the ways that we can seek guidance from Allah (SWT), and hope for His mercy and favor. We should never despair of His guidance, nor should we rely on our own efforts alone. We should always remember that guidance is a blessing from Allah (SWT), and that He is the best of guides.
