Love for Allah

Imam Ghazali wrote a really great book called "The Revival of the Religious Sciences." He wanted to see if people liked it, so he gave a copy to his friend who was a scribe. The scribe read it and said it was really good and helpful. He even decided to stop being a scribe and devote himself to worshipping Allah. But he had one suggestion - he thought the chapter about music should be removed because he loved music and couldn't give it up. But Imam Ghazali explained that the point of his book was not to make people give up everything they love, but to love Allah more than anything else. If they love Allah more than music, then music won't hurt them. But if they love music more than Allah, then it can be harmful. So Imam Ghazali didn't remove the chapter on music, but encouraged his friend to ask Allah to help him love Allah more than anything else.

Proclaim, (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), “O mankind! If you love Allah, follow me – Allah will love you and forgive you your sins”; and Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Al Quran 3-31]
