Rules of Peeing in Islam

Islam is a religion that teaches its followers to be clean and pure in all aspects of life, including personal hygiene. One of the aspects of personal hygiene that Islam has given detailed guidance on is how to pee or urinate in a proper and respectful manner. In this blog post, we will explore some of the rules of peeing in Islam, based on the Quran and the Sunnah (the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him).

The first rule of peeing in Islam is to choose a suitable place that is away from standing water, people's pathways, or shade. This is to avoid polluting the environment, harming others, or exposing one's private parts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Beware of the three things that bring curses: relieving oneself in shaded places, in the middle of roads, or by water sources." (Reported by Abu Dawud, no. 25)

The second rule of peeing in Islam is to not face or turn one's back towards the Qiblah (the direction of prayer towards Makkah) when urinating or defecating. This is out of respect for the Qiblah and for the symbols and rituals of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"When any one of you sits down to answer the call of nature, he should not face the Qiblah or turn his back towards it." (Reported by Muslim, no. 389)

The third rule of peeing in Islam is to not touch one's penis with one's right hand when urinating, or use one's right hand to remove impurity. The right hand should be used for noble purposes, such as eating, drinking, giving charity, shaking hands, etc. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrated from his father: "The Prophet prohibited that a man should touch his penis with his right hand."

The fourth rule of peeing in Islam is to wash one's penis or vulva with water using one's left hand after urinating, a procedure called istinja. This is to ensure cleanliness and purity, and to prevent infections or diseases. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Whoever wakes up from his sleep should wash his hands before putting them in the water for ablution, because nobody knows where his hands were during sleep." (Reported by al-Bukhari, no. 162)

The fifth rule of peeing in Islam is to remain silent while on the toilet, and not talk or greet anyone. This is to avoid distraction and disrespect for Allah's remembrance and supplication. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"There are two types of people who will be punished in their graves: one who spreads slander among people; and one who does not protect himself from urine." (Reported by al-Bukhari, no. 218)

The sixth rule of peeing in Islam is to say a dua (supplication) before entering and after leaving the toilet. This is to seek Allah's protection from evil and harm, and to thank Him for His favors and relief. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say before entering the toilet:

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from that which is evil (male) and that which is evil (female)."

(Reported by al-Bukhari, no. 142)

And he used to say after leaving the toilet:

"Praise be to Allah who relieved me of the filth and gave me relief."

These are some of the rules of peeing in Islam that every Muslim should know and follow. They are not meant to burden us or make us feel ashamed, but rather to teach us how to be clean, pure, respectful, and grateful for Allah's blessings. By following these rules, we can attain physical and spiritual health, peace, and happiness.
