Sudanese Army Denies Ceasefire Knowledge as Fighting Continues: Updates on Conflict

Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

وَإِنْ جَنَحُوا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Quran (8:61):

"But if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing."

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

لَيْسَ الشَّدِيدُ بِالصُّرَعَةِ إِنَّمَا الشَّدِيدُ الَّذِي يَمْلِكُ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ الْغَضَبِ

"The strong man is not the one who is good at wrestling, but the strong man is the one who controls himself in a fit of rage." (muslim:2609a)

Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan remains grim, with conflicting reports of a ceasefire. While General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo agreed to a 24-hour armistice for the safe evacuation of civilians and wounded individuals, the Sudanese army denies any knowledge of such an agreement. Moreover, there are doubts over whether the RSF will honor the ceasefire, with allegations of planning to use this time to conceal a defeat. The UN envoy reports at least 185 fatalities and over 1,800 injured, with many bodies remaining unclaimed.

The RSF claims to fight for the people's rights and democratic transition, but the indiscriminate military operations have faced condemnation from the US Secretary of State. The US embassy convoy was attacked, and the assailants are allegedly linked to the RSF.

Our prayers go out to the people of Sudan, and we hope that Allah SWT brings peace and stability to the country, providing solace to those who lost their loved ones and recovery to those who are injured. Ameen.

In Islamic history, there are many examples of conflicts and efforts to achieve peace through negotiation and ceasefire. One example is the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which was signed between Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the leaders of Mecca in 628 CE.

The treaty was signed after years of conflict between the Muslims and Meccans, and it allowed for a 10-year truce between the two sides. Despite the fact that some of the terms of the treaty were unfavorable to the Muslims, the Prophet (pbuh) agreed to it in order to prevent further bloodshed and to pave the way for peaceful coexistence.

This decision was met with some criticism from the Muslim community, but the Prophet (pbuh) explained that it was a strategic move that would ultimately benefit the Muslims. Indeed, the treaty led to a period of peace and stability in the region, which allowed the Muslims to focus on spreading the message of Islam and building their community.

The lesson from this story is that sometimes, in order to achieve peace, it is necessary to make difficult compromises and to rely on Allah's guidance and protection. It also highlights the importance of self-control and avoiding rash actions, as exemplified by the Prophet's (pbuh) decision to pursue peace despite the criticism he faced from some of his followers.
