The Significance and Virtues of Lailatul Qadr in the Quran and Sunnah

Lailatul Qadr is described in the Quran and Sunnah as a night of great blessings, mercy, forgiveness, and guidance. The Quran states that it is the night when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by God through the angel Gabriel. The Quran also states that this night is better than a thousand months, meaning that the worship and good deeds performed on this night are multiplied in reward.

Al Qadr (The power) -

Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree.

And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?

The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.

Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.

The Sunnah narrates that the Prophet Muhammad used to seek this night in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially in the odd nights. He also used to pray, read the Quran, make supplications, and observe i'tikaf (seclusion) on this night. He also encouraged his companions and followers to do the same and to seek God's pardon and pleasure on this night. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said:

"Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Lailat Al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven."
