The writer of this book  Therapy from the Quran and Ahadith is Dr. Feryad A. Hussain, a clinical psychologist and an associate professor at International Islamic University, Malaysia. She was born, raised and educated in the UK and obtained her Practitioner Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She has worked as a clinical psychologist for several years and has experience in using different therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy. She has also given them an Islamic orientation by incorporating Qur'anic verses and hadiths in her interventions. She wrote this book as a reference guide for character development and mental health based on the teachings of Islam. She has used only authentic and reliable sources of Qur'an and hadith interpretation and has presented them under more than 85 therapeutic themes that are relevant to common psychological problems and cognitions. She has also used analogy as a tool to facilitate understanding and application of the Qur'anic and hadith guidance. She has aimed to make this book useful for both Muslims and non-Muslims who are seeking psychological well-being and spiritual growth.

The book is not very big in terms of pages. It has 324 pages and is divided into short sections for each therapeutic theme. You don’t have to read it all at once. You can choose the themes that interest you or that are relevant to your situation and read them at your own pace. The book is designed to be easy to use and to provide practical guidance from the Qur’an and hadith.

The writer of this book, Dr. Feryad A. Hussain, has discussed more than 85 therapeutic approaches for treating mental illness in the light of Islamic teachings. She has also presented a practical workbook that helps see the most common psychological problems in a spiritually meaningful manner. One of the themes that she has covered in her book is tension. She has used Qur'anic verses and hadiths to explain the causes and effects of tension and how to cope with it. For example, she has quoted the verse:

"And whoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine." (Sr al-Talaq, 2-3)

She has interpreted this verse as a promise from Allah that He will help those who are faithful and obedient to Him and relieve them from their tension and stress. She has also quoted the hadith: "The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both. Guard over that which benefits you, seek Allah's assistance, and don't lend yourself to things devoid of benefit, and if something befalls you, then don't say 'if only I had done such and such', rather say قَدَرَ اللَّهُ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ 'QadrAllahu wa ma sha'a fa'ala (Allah ordained it and He does what He wills)' for verily the phrase 'if only' makes way for the work of Shaitan." (Muslim) She has explained this hadith as a guidance from the Prophet (saw) on how to deal with tension and anxiety by being strong in faith, seeking Allah's help, avoiding useless matters, and accepting Allah's decree without regret or resentment.
